Half Caucasian American, half Japanese, John Nakata is a Wakaresaseya, a “breaker-up” of marriages – for which he charges a large fee – by seducing the wives of rich husbands who need filmed evidence to discard them for younger and more glamorous women.

But then the Japanese Shinto side of his nature broods about the harm he’s causing. Can he achieve redemption for all the wrong he has committed? He decides his path is to kill ten of the husbands who paid him to seduce their wives and so avenge them. And make their deaths seem like suicide, leaving no trail for him to be identified as their killer.

But closing in on him is Lisa Perano, an ex-marine who’s searching for the answer as to why her young married sister took her life after meeting a man she seemingly fell in love with on first sight, and let herself be seduced by him that same first night.

Lisa can’t understand the contradiction of it and vows to find him. He’s a killer. She’s an ex-marine trained to kill. What will happen when they meet?

After the death of his wife Rachel, John Nakata becomes a Wakaresayesa, a breaker-upper of marriages. His
clients consist of wealthy men wanting to get rid of their wives, and leaving them with little to nothing. For
a substantial fee, Nakata seduces the wives with his charm, taping their love-making with a hidden camera
for evidence. Having chosen this path to secure the future of his child, Emma, he goes to untold lengths to achieve it.

A Saul Braunstein contacts Nakata, desperate to split up his son and his girlfriend, Tracie, but Nakata can’t bring himself to break up the love birds, so Braunstein has Tracie killed instead. News of this leaves Nakata brooding on his ways. His Japanese Shinto side decides him to take the path of redemption by killing ten of the husbands, thus avenging their wives, but in doing he makes the deaths seem like suicides, not murders.

Ex-marine, Lisa Perano, finds out that her married sister took her own life as a result of meeting Nakata and falling in love with him, only to discover what he really is. But with Nakata withholding his real identity from the women he deceives, it seems impossible for Lisa to find him., but she vows to do so and avenge her sister.

Nakata is a killer. Lisa is trained to kill. What will happen when their paths cross?

The author portrays the protagonist in a way that he can be viewed from multiple perspectives, which makes it more intriguing to know how to interpret his actions. The book has an engrossing storyline, keeping the reader completely stuck to its pages and eager to know how things will play out in the end. Each chapter of Deadly Redemption by Richard Rees has an air of suspense and tension infused in it, retaining the story alive and filled with thrill. It is a story that contains many unexpected twists; which gives it an extra kick. The cliffhanger at the end of the book will have readers eager to know more about how things play out.

It is a story that makes readers want to read more, yet would still keep them completely fascinated by the author’s brilliant storytelling skills. It is so enthralling, so brilliantly written and clearly also professionally edited, it has all to love about it.
